  22.     B) INSTALLATION
  23.  
  24.        This part is easy- just unzip the file. You don't have to put
  25.        DROPVIEW.EXE in a directory on your path. The only requirement is
  26.        that the files DROPVW2S.EXE, DROPVW.DLL, AND DROPVW2S.HLP are all
  27.        in the same directory. 
  28.  
  29.     C) RUNNING DROPVIEW
  30.  
  31.        DROPVIEW requires the File Manager (or Norton Desktop or PC Tools
  32.        for Windows) to run. You can start it from the Program Manager, your 
  33.        favorite menu program, or by double-clicking on DROPVW21.EXE in File 
  34.        Manager. When the DROPVIEW icon (a little target) appears on your 
  35.        desktop, you are ready to start loading images one at a time or
  36.        in groups by dragging them from the File Manager down to the DROPVIEW
  37.        icon. If you want DROPVIEW to load automatically whenever you
  38.        start Windows, open the File Manager and drag the file DROPVW21.EXE 
  39.        to the STARTUP group in Program Manager. This way, the DROPVIEW is
  40.        always on your desktop, ready to go.  If you place the Dropview icon
  41.        in a NDW or PCTW Toolbox, you can also start DROPVIEW by dragging
  42.        an image file to it. This method will load only the program and the
  43.        first file in the group of files that are dragged to the toolbox icon.
  44.            If, however, you drag a group of image files to DROPVW21.EXE in File 
  45.            Manager, the program and all of the image files will be loaded.  If
  46.            DROPVIEW is running, you cannot load additional instances of the program.
  47.        
  48.        NOTE TO OS/2 2X USERS: DROPVIEW runs quite nicely under WinOS/2. On
  49.            some systems, it may be nescessary to copy the file TTY.DRV from your
  50.            \Windows\System directory to your OS2\Mdos\Winos2\System directory.
  51.            Due to OS/2's somewhat bizzare palette management, when multiple images
  52.            are loaded, color quality may deteriorate a great deal more than under
  53.            regular Windows.

  55.     D) WHAT IT DOES
  56.        DROPVIEW allows you to drag any number of images from the File
  57.        Manager and loads each one in it's own scrollable window. The following
  58.            file formats can be loaded:
  59.  
  60.         .BMP - Windows 3x bitmap(all color and compression types
  61.                         including OS/2) 
  62.                 .TIF - Aldus Tiff(all color and compression types including
  63.             Group III and Group IV fax)
  64.                 .PCX - PC Paintbrush PCX
  65.         .GIF - Compuserve GIF
  66.                 .TGA - Truevision TARGA
  67.         .WMF - Windows Metafile
  68.                 .WPG - Wordperfect Graphics(Dropview will load only the bitmapped
  69.                          data portion of .wpg files)
  70.                 .PCT - MacPaint PICT 
  71.                 .JPG - Joint Photographic Experts Group compressed format(JPEG)
  72.                 .EPS - Adobe Encapsulated PostScript(Dropview will load the screen
  73.                         preview portion of .eps files)

  76.        Once an image is loaded, you can :
  77.         -zoom,resize,crop,rotate or flip it
  78.         -dither(monochrome or 4 color) or greyscale it
  79.                 -adjust brightness and contrast
  80.         -copy all or part of it to the clipboard 
  81.         -overlay a clipboard bitmap on it
  82.         -save it in any of the above file formats  
  83.            -make it your desktop wallpaper without 
  84.           messing around with Control Panel, no matter
  85.                   what file type it is 
  86.         -get it's vital statistics(size, # of colors,
  87.          type, etc.)        
  88.                 -Print it(in full color if your printer supports it)
  89.  
  90.        DROPVIEW windows will also accept any kind of image from the 
  91.        Clipboard and allow you to save it any of the above formats.
  92.        
  93.     E) MENU COMMANDS 
  94.  
  95.        The menu commands available for each DROPVIEW window are explained
  96.        in the Help file. To view it, click on the DROPVIEW icon and choose
  97.        HELP. A few general notes on the menu commands:
  98.  
  99.          COPYING AND PASTING: Dropview has a rather different way of handling
  100.              copying and pasting to and from the clipboard. Most of these operations
  101.              can be performed without menu commands by the use of mouse buttons.
  102.              
  103.                1)COPYING TO THE CLIPBOARD: a copy area can be blocked by pressing and
  104.                holding the left mouse button and moving the mouse.  As the mouse is
  105.                moved, a rectangle showing the clipping area is drawn. At this point,
  106.                you can bring down the EDIT menu and choose COPY to copy the selected
  107.                area to the clipboard or double-click the left mouse button to cancel
  108.                the operation.  To copy an entire image to the clipboard, choose COPY
  109.                without first drawing a rectangle.
  110.  
  111.                2)VIEWING OR PASTING CLIPBOARD CONTENTS: this is done by pulling down 
  112.                the EDIT menu and choosing the SHOW CLIPBOARD command, which loads the
  113.                Clipboard image into a seperate DROPVIEW window. Any of DROPVIEW's
  114.                image processing functions can now be performed on the clipboard image.
  115.                You can also get a preview of what an overlay will look like simply
  116.                by moving the mouse to the place where the clipboard image is to be
  117.                inserted and pressing and holding the right mouse button. The clipboard
  118.                image will now appear, and if you keep the right button down you can move 
  119.                the clipboard image around.  The image can be pasted by double-clicking
  120.                on the right mouse button or choosing the OVERLAY command from the EDIT
  121.                menu.  Double clicking on the left mouse button cancels the operation.
  122.                The PASTE command will replace the image in the current window
  123.                with the clipboard image(if you made any changes to the image in the
  124.                current window, be sure to save it before using the PASTE command).

  126.          WALLPAPER : The TILE WALLPAPER AND CENTER WALLPAPER choices on the 
  127.              BITMAP menu will load any image file(not just .bmp) as wallpaper.
  128.              If you choose this command while a non-bitmap file is loaded in the
  129.              current window, the program creates a temporary .bmp file and pops up
  130.              a message box with the name of the new file so you can later delete it
  131.              if desired.  The wallpaper commands cannot be used on images in DROPVIEW
  132.              Clipboard windows-you must save clipboard images before using them as 
  133.              wallpaper.

  135.     F) CLOSING DROPVIEW 
  136.  
  137.        The DROPVIEW windows can be closed individually choosing exit from the
  138.            file menu or by opening the window's system menu and choosing close.
  139.            Or, all bitmap windows can be closed at once by double clicking
  140.        the DROPVIEW icon and choosing CLOSE WINDOWS from the system menu. 
  141.            The program remains active and the icon will still be visible. 
  142.            To close the DROPVIEW program, click on it and choose CLOSE.
  143.        Doing this will also close any DROPVIEW windows that are still open.

  145.     G) SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS
  146.  
  147.        Any system that will run Windows 3.1 will run DROPVIEW. The program
  148.        does not run under Windows 3.0.  
  149.  
  150.     H) REGISTERING DROPVIEW
  151.  
  152.        If you register your copy of DROPVIEW 2.01, you will recieve our
  153.            next upgrade, DROPVIEW\IP for only a small shipping charge. We are 
  154.            currently Beta testing this version and expect it to be ready by 
  155.            November 1993. It will have the following enhancements:
  156.  
  157.         1) Full color drawing capabilities(lines, rectangles, etc.). 
  158.         2) Color and flood fill
  159.         3) Advanced palette manipulation
  160.                 4) The ability to add text in TRUETYPE fonts to your images
  161.                 5) Additional MAC and OS/2 image file support
  162.                 6) Additional printing options

  165.       DROPVIEW\IP will carry a $29.95 price tag, but if you register this 
  166.       version of Dropview, we will send it for a small shipping charge.
